Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.

The supplemental intake of folic acid increases the folate level in pregnant women.

Low folate levels in pregnant women are a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the growing fetus.

The positive effect occurs with a supplemental intake of 400 µg folic acid daily over a period of at least one month before and up to three months after conception (target group: women of childbearing age).

Zinc, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and folic acid have a role in cell division.
